Dr Heather Francis

Medical Oncologist

MBBS (hons.), FRACP

Dr Heather Francis obtained her undergraduate medical degree at the University of Melbourne, and underwent basic physician training through St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. She subsequently completed specialist medical oncology training at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and in Ballarat and Albury.

In 2007 Heather spent a year in Malawi, sub-Saharan Africa, working in palliative care and HIV related cancer medicine. Aside from being an amazing experience, this helped to establish an interest in supportive care, and the importance of a holistic approach.

Heather has a personalized but collaborative approach to patient care. Given a strong interest in supportive care, and the impact of lifestyle factors on cancer treatment, Heather has been involved in establishing a cancer-specific exercise physiology programme for patients receiving chemotherapy at St John of God Hospital in Ballarat.

Heather welcomes referrals for patients with all solid tumour types.

Outside of oncology, Heather is a keen cellist and is privileged to play and tour with Corpus Medicorum, an orchestra made up of like-minded health professionals. She lives with her husband and three children in Buninyong.
